Wilhelmina and WMCN TV Go Into Production of “Philly Kids Got Talent,” Announce Auditions Begin July 26

The Philadelphia-produced show will air in early-2015

PHILADELPHIA (July 1, 2014) – Some people are born performers. From the time they were toddlers, they saw hairbrushes as microphones, pots as drums, brooms as guitars – and their family as small, intimate audiences. Beginning later this month, Wilhelmina Philadelphia and Lenfest Broadcasting’s WMCN TV will give those budding superstars a much larger stage – and for one lucky performer, a contract that could help make their dreams come true.

The talent, modeling and artist management agency is co-producing its first local television project, “Philly Kids Got Talent,” and will begin holding open calls in late July. Wilhelmina is casting a total of 80 children and teenagers across five categories, who will then be invited to compete is a weekly  talent competition that will air locally on WMCN TV across 10 weeks in early 2015.

The first audition is Saturday, July 26 at Cherry Hill Mall in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. The second will be at Willow Grove Park in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania on Saturday, August 9. Both open calls will run from noon until 8pm, and both will take place in the court areas outside of Macy’s.

The competition categories are: singing; dancing; acting; comedy and magic; and musical talent (instrumental). A panel of judges will watch the live performances and provide positive feedback, although their final decisions will be made confidentially at a later date.

The 80 contestants who are ultimately selected will be divided across 10 shows and tape their performances before a studio audience in January. The resulting shows will then air in an hour-long prime time slot, followed the next day by a half-hour results show during which the winner will be announced.

There will be one winner each week, selected in part by viewers’ votes over a 24-hr period following the show. The weekly winners will compete against each other in a live finale for a prize package that includes, among other things, a management contract with Wilhelmina Philadelphia.

“Every week we see children come in (to Wilhelmina) with amazing talent. Some kids sing, others dance. Some are solo acts, others are a group they formed with other kids from their neighborhoods or perform with their brothers and sisters. To put the show together, Walters tapped into the agency’s nationwide network of producers, talent scouts, acting and voice coaches and directors, as well as local partners at Lenfest Broadcasting.
